After four years of leading Richmond, I’m proudly running for re-election in the June 2, 2026 primary. Can I count on your vote?
Under my leadership, Richmond has maintained a balanced budget and improved its credit rating, increased city staffing, launched community-centered public safety programs, and created real opportunities for small business growth.
Now let’s keep the momentum going — reviving the Port of Richmond, revitalizing downtown, cutting red tape to streamline public services, and promoting the arts along with better parks and sports facilities.

As Mayor, I focus on three areas: shaping local laws and policies, building community, and staying connected to all six council districts. That means I’m not just sitting in City Hall — I’m out in your neighborhood, listening to what matters to you and turning those conversations into action.

I was born in 1949 in Dumas, Texas. After moving to the Bay Area in the 1970s, I earned a BA in Liberal Arts and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from San Francisco State. I began my teaching career in 1989 and spent many years in the West Contra Costa County Unified School District before retiring in 2010.
As a longtime resident of Richmond, I care deeply about this community. Since winning a seat on the Richmond City Council in 2014, I’ve been a strong advocate for protecting the environment, strengthening the police review process, raising the minimum wage, stabilizing rents, and redirecting public money from jail expansion to public services.
I’m not a career politician — I’m a retired teacher who believes in showing up for my neighbors. That’s what brought me to the City Council, and that’s what drives me every day as your Mayor.
